GOULD GRABS STAR DRIVER AWARD
26 May 2008

Members of the MSA British Rally Elite scheme underscored their potential with a series of stunning performances at the Jim Clark Rally.

Adam Gould picked up the Pirelli Star Driver award after putting in a blistering drive to finish 10th overall. Gould was first in the R2 class, the first two-wheel drive car home and seventh of the British Rally Championship finishers. His result was all the more impressive given it was his first outing on asphalt in his Renault Clio and the first time he had co-driver and fellow Academy member Seb Marshall alongside.
Elite duo James Wozencroft and Chris Ridge also found the Borders tar to their liking over the weekend, as they finished sixth overall and fourth among the BRC runners. The pair are still adjusting to four-wheel drive, but a mature performance saw them put in consistently quick times and signal their intent to mix it with the more established BRC contenders.

MSA British Rally Elite driver Jonny Greer and MSA British Rally Academy co-driver Jonny Hart were another combination who once again showed their pace at the weekend, following up their eighth overall at the Pirelli with seventh overall at the Jim Clark.
It was a less successful event for Elite member Alastair Fisher, who had to retire early in the rally after a puncture-induced accident on the opening stage.
Elite driver Jason Pritchard did well to finish the event in his first outing since breaking his ankle in a road accident earlier in the year. Despite suffering serious discomfort from his healing joint, he managed to tough it out and finish fifth in the C2R2 Cup. MSA British Rally Academy member Martin McCormack was challenging for the lead in the same class before a string of mechanical problems put paid to his rally and he was forced to retire.

MSA British Rally Academy co-driver Andrew Roughead finished 15th while fellow Academy member Kris Hall steered his Fiesta ST to third place in the R2 class.

All members of the scheme competing at the weekend were given one-to-one support throughout the rally by sports science staff from the University of Edinburgh. At each service drivers and co-drivers had their physical condition monitored, including assessment of their hydration levels and heart rates, to help them maximise their performance. All the data collected during the course of the event will be used to improve the yearly personalised performance programs for each member of the scheme.
